Denis Ssemwanga
betting editor, Uganda · Kampala
Denis Ssemwanga lives in Ntinda, Kampala, and has been betting since 2016. He studied journalism at Makerere University, then spent three years behind the counter of a mobile money shop near Nakawa market: float, reversals, and the complaints that come with them.
That shop is where the writing started. In 2016 a customer could not get a 200,000 shilling withdrawal out of a betting account for nine days, and the shop kept being blamed for it. He began a notebook on which wallet clears, what the agent charge really is and what verification asks for, and the notebook became the work.
How the figures are checked
Every figure starts from the operator's own pages, with the date it was read. Wallet charges and limits are checked against the published MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money tariffs, not against a comparison site. Licensing is checked against the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, which licenses gaming in Uganda under the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016. Where two sources disagree, the page quotes what the operator publishes and gives the date. Where the operator publishes nothing, the page says there is no data. No tips, no odds, no staking plans.
